Jersey community 'meal mates' campaign launched
There is now a campaign urging families to prepare a dinner
for another family or involve others in the meal preparation process.
The Meal Mates: Cook, Share, Care programme was started by a
local non-profit company called Caring Cooks with the goal of fostering
"stronger community bonds" on the island.
Its founder, who prepared extra meals for needy families,
served as the inspiration for the concept.
Jersey's "complex problem" with regard to food
insecurity, according to CEO Yvonne Corbin.
"Our rising food prices are one of the main pressures
in this space," she remarked.
Many families and individuals struggle to make ends meet in
Jersey since the cost of living there is among the highest in all of Europe.
Statistics show that the cost of living in Jersey increased
by 12.7% in January.
